RPC worm virus information

September 2003

HP OpenView has determined that variants of the RPC worm virus (for example "Blaster" or "W32.Blaster.worm") may impact HP OpenView products running on Microsoft Windows, HPUX, Solaris and Linux.

More information about the worm can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

It is important that you follow the instructions from Microsoft and apply appropriate patches to all servers running Microsoft Windows.

If the worm enters your network, it could affect other operating systems that use RPC communications.

For HP-UX B.11.11 systems, no extra patching is required. For earlier HP-UX versions, we recommend that you patch the DCE to at least the following levels:
  • B.11.00 - PHSS_17810 or subsequent patch
  • B.10.20 - PHSS_19739
For Solaris systems (all versions), there is a patch available that will replace the HPlwdce binaries. This patch applies to any OV product or product version that uses the HPlwdce. The available patches are:
For Linux systems, a patch is now available. The available patches are:
For other operating systems, we recommend you contact the vendor to see if further patches are appropriate.

For more detailed information about the RPC worm, you can go to the ITRC at http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/home/home.do and request document HPSBUX0308-274.

If you encounter this virus and have problems with your HP OpenView application, please open a support case with HP OpenView support.

Please continue to monitor the HP OpenView support website for additional updates.

New support structure for HP Software services

August 2003

HP Software Services is participating in the HP Care Pack Program. HP Care Pack is the new support structure that replaces the existing pre-merger HP and Compaq support services.

The program has been implemented for Customer Care Standard and Customer Care Extended for HP OpenView and storage management software on 18 August 2003. The software support deliverables have not changed in any way, so there will be minimal impact to customers and partners. The only changes to Customer Care Standard and Customer Care Extended are the names, the product numbers, and the format of quotes. The old names and replacement names are:
  • "Customer Care Standard" will now be called "Software Support" (or "Support Plus" for customers who are also purchasing HP hardware support at the same time)
  • "Customer Care Extended" will now be called "Software Support, 24 x 7" (or Support Plus 24x7 for customers who are also purchasing HP hardware support at the same time)
  • "Customer Care Advantage" will now be called "HP OpenView Advantage Service"
  • "HP OpenView Premier Services" (previously known as Customer Care Premier) will now be called "HP OpenView Premier Service"
  • "HP OpenView Critical Premier Services" will be replaced by the HP OpenView extensions to "HP Proactive 24 Service" and to "HP Critical Service"
