HP Software support Daylight Saving Time Operations

Product Notes and Requirements
Operations for Windows (OVOW) Operations for Windows 7.21: Update the JRE using the tzupdater utility from Sun.
Operations for Windows 7.5: Patch OVOW_00241 is available to update the JRE used by the SvcDiscServer. Visit the operating system and JDK vendor links for addtional details.Daylight Saving.
Operations for Windows Agents OpenView Operations Agents and Smart Plug-Ins rely on the operating system for Daylight Saving Time support.

Also, QXCR1000377236 describes a known issue with the CODA component and a related patch (OVOW_00230) or hotfix with a correction.
The Service Discovery sub-agent in includes a version of JRE that does not support the DST change and could result in having scheduled discovery delayed by one hour. e-Care document OV-EN022944 describes a work around for the Service Discovery Sub-Agent JRE problem is available through support.
Operations for Unix(OVOU) OpenView Operations for Unix relies on the operating system for Daylight Saving Time support. Visit the operating system links for addtional details.Daylight Saving.
Operations for UNIX Java user interface For the Windows platform only, Operations for UNIX Java user interface bundles the JRE that supports the Daylight Savings Time change.

For other platforms (HP-UX, Solaris), customers need to provide the appropriate JRE version:
  • Operations for UNIX 7: Java user interface patch 8.24 (based on JRE 1.4.2_13) is available:
  • - PHSS_35941 (HP-UX & PA-RISC) - ITOSOL_00568 (Solaris SPARC)
  • Operations for UNIX 8: Java user interface patch 8.24 (based on JRE 1.4.2_13) is available:
  • - PHSS_35790 (OVOU sv on HP-UX Itanium) - PHSS_35791 (HP-UX & PA-RISC) - ITOSOL_00541 (Solaris SPARC)
  • Operations for UNIX pre-7.27 and pre-8.24: A workaround is possible by running the tzupdater script from DST Article. Visit the operating system and JDK vendor links for addtional details.Daylight Savings.
Operations for Unix Configuration Value Pack As the CVP software is not using the last version of JDK and the DST is approaching the JDK/JRE images need to be modified accordingly.
In order to accommodate the U.S. 2007 daylight saving time changes (US2007DST) there exists a tool bundle JDK US DST Timezone Update Tool - 1.0 which can be downloaded from the Sun SE download site:
HP-UX
Other Platforms
A single JDK/JRE image is modified per execution. For administering to multiple JDK/JRE instances, read the README delivered with the tool.
To update your JDK/JRE image bundled in CVP, please follow these steps:
  • 1.stop CVP via CVP_HOME/midas.sh stop
  • 2.invoke the update tool via CVP_HOME/jre/bin/java -jar tzupdater.jar -u -v
  • 3.verify with CVP_HOME/jre/bin/java -jar tzupdater.jar -t -v
  • 4.start CVP via CVP_HOME/midas.sh start
Operations for Unix Agents Operations Agents and operating system SPIs rely on the operating system for Daylight Savings Time support.

Non-critical DST fix for MS Windows nodes available as a locally installable hotfix (see QXCR1000377236 via the support organization.

OVO/UNIX server deployable hotfixes (CODA-251-DST) can be obtained via the support organization.

While OVOA standalone has no problem, a DST issue is caused by having OVPA 4.5 or later installed on same system.

Updates to the embedded performance component (EPC; aka Coda) are required for the Linux, Solaris (and AIX) platforms to address several generic DST issues, not specific to this DST 2007 change. The OVOA/U patches for these platforms are available for download via the ftp site:

Deployable from HP-UX:
Deployable from Solaris:
Service Navigator Value Pack (SNVP) SNVP 8.0 supports DST changes with java 1.4.02_11.
SNVP 9.0 supports DST changes with HPOvJre-01.04.222--release component installed.
This component is part of Service Desk product.
Performance Manager 5.x (OVPM 5.x) For Daylight Saving Time support, JDKA 01.04.230 (JDK 1.4.2_11) became available at the end of December 2006 as a downloadable file from the L-Core hot fix site. Performance Manager 5.x is being tested with this JDK version to understand its DST support.

Technical Bulletin OV-EN022815 explains the changes and the process of downloading and upgrading to the new JDK version.

If using the Java user interface on the client web browser, customers should upgrade their browser JRE plug-in to 1.4.2_11 or higher.
Performance Manager 6.x (OVPM 6.x) Performance Manager primarily depends upon the Java Virtual Machine to support Daylight Savings time; however, it also leverages the OpenView Graphing Component (OVGC) , which is a commom component used by OV Reporter, OV Operations for Windows, and OV Internet Services. OVGC 6.01.x patches with an updted JDK component are available on software support website (see below). Also, if using Java UI on the client web browser, upgrade the JRE plug-in to 1.4.2_11 or higher.

Patch IDs:
Note: The patch also requires OVPM common components upgrade via dependent tar bundle.
Impact: Without the patch, Java may incorrectly interpret dates/times and cause errors in summarization and filtering of data displayed in OVPM. See e-Care documentOV-EN022815 for additional details.
Performance Agent (OVPA )/ MeasureWare There is a known issue for Daylight Saving Time support in OVPA 4.5 or later (earlier OVPA versions require no upgrade). This is not related to the DST 2007 rule changes, but affects all fallback times.

OVPA 4.5 customers need to apply patches from one of the categories below (OVPA standalone, OVOU deployable, OVPA deployable, or the hotfix)
OVPA 4.5 standalone patches (all standalone patches also require OVPA common components upgrade via dependent tar bundle):
OVOU deployable patches: OVPA 4.5 deployable patches: Hotfix available:Coda Hotfix CODA-251-DST can be obtained via the support organization.
OVPA 4.6 customers can only apply the CODA-251-DST hotfix.
Reporter Reporter has a known problem related to the Daylight Saving Time change (QXCR1000378528 and QXCR1000380730).Patch OVR_00010 contains a critical fix for this issue for version 3.70. Hotfixes are also available for versions 3.60 & 3.70: (HOTFIX_NAME=Gathercoda_loops_during_DST_changes).

SiteScope

SiteScope 8.2 and higher: no fix is required. However, we recommend to update the operating system as a best practice.

For prior versions, we recommend upgrading to SiteScope 8.5. If this is not feasible, the DST change can be supported in SiteScope 7.9.5.17 and later by updating the JRE to a newer version that supports the DST change. SightSeer operators will install the tzupdater patch or upgrade the JRE 10 1.3.1_18. See the BAC DST 2007 patch readme for detailed steps.
